LIZZY
People walked on the moon, so why can't I dance drumming?

Mission/Challenge
The Drummer Lizzy had the desire to dance and play drums at the same time. So she hired Maartje (fashion designer), Ahmad (electronic designer), Onur (3d print expert) and me (drum pad designer)to design her 3D Drum Dress.
Outcome
An exclusively dress with body pads that have a piezo membrane inside that allows the digital sound to be produced, when Lizzy plays it. The dress is wireless and it is connected via BlueTooth to a computer.
Results/Impact
After Lizzy released her teaser with the new dress she closed over 20 performances all around the world, including in Africa and the United States.
PRODUCT REQUIREMENTS
The Body Pads had to be comfortable to be played, the electronics components had to fit in it, the body pads had to be attachable on the dress and had to be 3D printable.
PRINT IT
UNTIL YOU MAKE IT
The design process was based on 3D printing, testing, and adjusting.
This process was repeated until we achieved a satisfactory result.
WE TESTED DIFFERENT FORMS AND ASSEMBLING SHAPES
Until we found the perfect relation between body pad size and thickness, which provided a smooth playing experience to Lizzy.
The body pads were then integrated on the dress.
Again a lot of tests were made the guarentee their usability.
I implemented the pattern that Martje had created, on the cover of the body pads, in order to have a coherent fit.
